  13. Minimum system requirements

  16. Microsoft Windows in STANDARD or ENHANCED mode.

  18. Microsoft Windows 3.0 or higher; a personal computer with
  19. an 80286 processor or higher; DOS 3.1 or higher; 1.5 MB
  20. memory; One 1.4 MB (3.5") disk drive; Hard disk with 2.5
  21. MB of free disk space; Graphics adapter card (VGA, EGA,
  22. 8514, Hercules, or similar Windows-compatible card);
  23. Mouse or similar Windows-compatible pointing device.

  26. Versions available for non-Windows computers

  28. There are two non-Windows versions of the Bible Memory
  29. program available. One for DOS/Compatibles and the other
  30. for the Apple Macintosh.

  34. Purpose of the program
  35. ============================================================            
  36. This program will do two main things for you:
  37.        
  38.        1.) Teach you powerful memory systems.
  39.        2.) Test your memory in a fun way.
  40.  
  41. The memory systems assist the user in memorizing the:
  42.  
  43.        1.) Location of verses.
  44.        2.) Key thoughts in a verse or chapter.
  45.        3.) Verses in a word-for-word form.
  46.  
  47. Please take the time to read the Memory Lessons under
  48. the Bible Memory Help menu.       
  49.  
  50. The contents of this help section are stored in the text file
  51. named: README and can be printed on paper using the
  52. DOS command: TYPE README > PRN
  53.

  55. Installing Bible Memory for Windows onto a hard disk
  56. ============================================================
  57. 1.) Insert the disk into your disk drive.
  58. 2.) Change to the drive by typing   A:  and pressing 
  59.      the enter key. (If your disk drive is identified 
  60.      as B: you need to type B: instead).
  61. 3.) Now type the command   INSTALL  and press 
  62.      the enter key.
  63.  
  64. The install program will create a subdirectory on drive C:
  65. called BMWINDOW and will then copy the README text
  66. file, the compressed file BMWIN30.EXE and the
  67. INSTALL.BAT file into the new subdirectory. The install
  68. program will then automatically uncompress all of the 
  69. Bible Memory files.
  70.  
  71. You should keep a copy of the README text file, the
  72. compressed file BMWIN30.EXE and the INSTALL.BAT file
  73. on your hard disk so you can easily give your friends a
  74. copy of everything they will need.

  77. Starting Bible Memory 3.0 for Windows
  78. ============================================================
  79. There are two ways to start the program:
  80.  
  81. 1.) Start Microsoft Windows first then in the Windows
  82.      Program Manager choose Run from under the File menu
  83.      and type C:\BMWINDOW\TBOOK BMEMORY
  84.  
  85.  2.) If your system has been configured properly you can
  86.       start Windows and the Bible Memory program with one
  87.       command at the DOS prompt. First to change to the
  88.       Bible Memory subdirectory type  CD\BMWINDOW
  89.       and press the enter key. Then to start Windows and 
  90.       Bible Memory type in the single command  
  91.       as follows   WIN TBOOK BMEMORY

  96. Giving a friend a copy of Bible Memory
  97. ============================================================
  98. All of the files needed to run the Bible Memory program are
  99. compressed into a single file called:  BMWIN30.EXE
  100. To install the program give your friend a copy of the file
  101. called: INSTALL.BAT You should also give your friend a
  102. copy of the file called: README which contains general
  103. information on how to use the program. 
  104.  
  105. So, give your friend the following files:
  106.         
  107.         1. BMWIN30.EXE
  108.         2. INSTALL.BAT
  109.         3. README
  110.   
  111.

  113. Contents of the three key files:
  114. ============================================================
  115. 1. BMWIN30.EXE Compressed files which must of course
  116.     be uncompressed prior to use. In the uncompressed
  117.     state the Bible Memory program files along with several
  118.     sample text files of verses occupy approximately 
  119.     2.5 meg of hard disk space.
  120.  
  121. 2. INSTALL.BAT Small and simple batch file which will
  122.     install and uncompress the files on a hard disk. The
  123.     INSTALL.BAT file assumes the hard disk is identified 
  124.     as drive C: and that you DO NOT already have a
  125.     subdirectory C:\BMWINDOW The INSTALL.BAT file 
  126.     will create the subdirectory.

  128. 3. README Text file with general help on installing,
  129.     using and copying the Bible Memory program.
  130.       
  131. ============================================================
  132. Importing Verses into the Bible Memory program
  133. ============================================================
  134. You can import text files of verses which have been 
  135. created in one of the following ways:
  136.  
  137. 1. Created in a Bible software program or word
  138.     processor and saved as a text file (ASCII).
  139.  
  140. 2. Created within the Bible Memory program itself by 
  141.     typing the verses into either the primary or secondary
  142.     file windows. Verses will be randomly selected from
  143.     the Primary Text window. For the program to work 
  144.     properly there must be five or more verses in the
  145.     Primary Text window.
  146.  
  147. Regardless of the source, the file must conform to the following format:
  148.  
  149. Type in the book name, then leave a blank space, the
  150. chapter and verse reference which must be separated by
  151. a colon ":", then leave a blank space, and then the content
  152. of the verse itself. Each verse must be followed by a return
  153. and each verse must be separated with a return.
  154.  
  155. The Bible Memory program will add the memory hook
  156. markers "[->" and "<-]" on either side of memory hooks
  157. you add.
  158.  
  159. I recommend trying to memorize about seven new verses at a time.
