Bible Memory for Microsoft Windows
Freeware from Soulware Services
Bible Memory 3.0 (June 9, 1992)
===============================================
============================================================
Minimum system requirements
============================================================
Microsoft Windows in STANDARD or ENHANCED mode.
Microsoft Windows 3.0 or higher; a personal computer with
an 80286 processor or higher; DOS 3.1 or higher; 1.5 MB
memory; One 1.4 MB (3.5") disk drive; Hard disk with 2.5
MB of free disk space; Graphics adapter card (VGA, EGA,
8514, Hercules, or similar Windows-compatible card);
Mouse or similar Windows-compatible pointing device.
============================================================
Versions available for non-Windows computers
============================================================
There are two non-Windows versions of the Bible Memory
program available. One for DOS/Compatibles and the other
for the Apple Macintosh.
============================================================
Purpose of the program
============================================================
This program will do two main things for you:
1.) Teach you powerful memory systems.
2.) Test your memory in a fun way.
The memory systems assist the user in memorizing the:
1.) Location of verses.
2.) Key thoughts in a verse or chapter.
3.) Verses in a word-for-word form.
Please take the time to read the Memory Lessons under
the Bible Memory Help menu.
The contents of this help section are stored in the text file
named: README and can be printed on paper using the
DOS command: TYPE README > PRN
============================================================
Installing Bible Memory for Windows onto a hard disk
============================================================
1.) Insert the disk into your disk drive.
2.) Change to the drive by typing A: and pressing
the enter key. (If your disk drive is identified
as B: you need to type B: instead).
3.) Now type the command INSTALL and press
the enter key.
The install program will create a subdirectory on drive C:
called BMWINDOW and will then copy the README text
file, the compressed file BMWIN30.EXE and the
INSTALL.BAT file into the new subdirectory. The install
program will then automatically uncompress all of the
Bible Memory files.
You should keep a copy of the README text file, the
compressed file BMWIN30.EXE and the INSTALL.BAT file
on your hard disk so you can easily give your friends a
copy of everything they will need.
============================================================
Starting Bible Memory 3.0 for Windows
============================================================
There are two ways to start the program:
1.) Start Microsoft Windows first then in the Windows
Program Manager choose Run from under the File menu
and type C:\BMWINDOW\TBOOK BMEMORY
2.) If your system has been configured properly you can
start Windows and the Bible Memory program with one
command at the DOS prompt. First to change to the
Bible Memory subdirectory type CD\BMWINDOW
and press the enter key. Then to start Windows and
Bible Memory type in the single command
as follows WIN TBOOK BMEMORY
============================================================
Giving a friend a copy of Bible Memory
============================================================
All of the files needed to run the Bible Memory program are
compressed into a single file called: BMWIN30.EXE
To install the program give your friend a copy of the file
called: INSTALL.BAT You should also give your friend a
copy of the file called: README which contains general
information on how to use the program.
So, give your friend the following files:
1. BMWIN30.EXE
2. INSTALL.BAT
3. README
============================================================
Contents of the three key files:
============================================================
1. BMWIN30.EXE Compressed files which must of course
be uncompressed prior to use. In the uncompressed
state the Bible Memory program files along with several
sample text files of verses occupy approximately
2.5 meg of hard disk space.
2. INSTALL.BAT Small and simple batch file which will
install and uncompress the files on a hard disk. The
INSTALL.BAT file assumes the hard disk is identified
as drive C: and that you DO NOT already have a
subdirectory C:\BMWINDOW The INSTALL.BAT file
will create the subdirectory.
3. README Text file with general help on installing,
using and copying the Bible Memory program.
============================================================
Importing Verses into the Bible Memory program
============================================================
You can import text files of verses which have been
created in one of the following ways:
1. Created in a Bible software program or word
processor and saved as a text file (ASCII).
2. Created within the Bible Memory program itself by
typing the verses into either the primary or secondary
file windows. Verses will be randomly selected from
the Primary Text window. For the program to work
properly there must be five or more verses in the
Primary Text window.
Regardless of the source, the file must conform to the following format:
Type in the book name, then leave a blank space, the
chapter and verse reference which must be separated by
a colon ":", then leave a blank space, and then the content
of the verse itself. Each verse must be followed by a return
and each verse must be separated with a return.
The Bible Memory program will add the memory hook
markers "[->" and "<-]" on either side of memory hooks
you add.
I recommend trying to memorize about seven new verses at a time.

My prayer
============================================================
May the Lord God in heaven use this program for His glory.
